58 projects worth Rs. 1091.29 crore have been sanctioned under the Sports Department under the KIIFB scheme. 14 district stadiums and other regional/regional stadiums are included in this scheme. Out of these, 19 projects have already been completed and 11 projects are in progress through the former SPV, KITCO. The government has ordered the transfer of 32 KIIFB projects worth Rs. 679.12 crore from the former SPV, KITCO, to the Sports Kerala Foundation. Out of these, DPRs for 18 projects have been submitted to KIIFB, out of which 9 projects have received financial approval from KIIFB, tenders have been invited for 8 projects and out of which work has commenced on 4 projects.

The prestigious scheme of Government of Kerala “One Playground for One Panchayath” is been implementing through Sports Kerala Foundation. The Government of Kerala has proposed to develop at least one play ground in each panchayath and in other rural areas under the scheme “One Playground for One Panchayath”. It is the important projects implemented by the Sports Department are the development of rural playgrounds. The benefits of the project are intangible in nature. It mainly focuses the parameters like health, wellness and happiness of the society. Improved social interaction is an added benefit of the project. It helps the youth to stay away from the social evils like liquors, drugs, communal and other fractional divide etc.

Under the One Panchayat One Playground project, 50% of the amount required for one playground (maximum Rs. 50 lakhs) is allocated as the Sports Department's project share and the remaining amount is allocated from the Asset Development Fund of the People's Representatives, Local Self-Government Institutions and Social Commitment Funds of various institutions. As per the recommendations of the people's representatives, the amended list of 124 playgrounds in the first phase for the One Panchayat One Playground project has been approved by the government. Accordingly, the work of 10 playgrounds has been completed. The Sports and Youth Affairs Director has given comprehensive administrative approval for 78 playgrounds Out of these, 68 works are progressing at various stages.

In the second phase 8 playgrounds are included and in 2025-26 financial year 36 playgrounds are also included.

Khelo India Scheme is the centrally funded scheme with the aim of promoting sports across the country. This scheme includes development of sports infrastructure, promotion of community coaching, competitions at school and university levels, promotion of sports academies, and improvement of sportsmanship at school level. Currently, under the Khelo India Scheme in Kerala, a synthetic track and gallery building at the Kunnamkulam Sports Division, Thrissur has been completed at a cost of Rs. 7 crore, and a synthetic track and gallery building at the Pariyaram Medical College, Kannur at a cost of Rs. 7 crore. In addition, DPRs of 7 projects have been prepared for implementation under the Khelo India Scheme 2023-24 and submitted to the Central Government for approval. In which, administrative sanction of Rs. 3 crore was received from the Central Government on 08.04.2024 for the construction of an indoor stadium in Kamakshi Grama Panchayat in Idukki district and work is in progress. Also administrative sanction of Rs. 9.50 crore was received from the Central Government on 28.03.2025 for the construction of Synthetic Athletic Track at Christ College, Inrinjalakuda Municipality in Thrissur District and the work is in tender stage.

Sports Kerala Foundation has established and overlooks operations of 16 Fitness centers across Kerala. These fitness centers are state-of-the-art fitness centers with modern, sophisticated equipment. The facilities are fully air-conditioned. The fee is structured in a reasonable manner to make it affordable to the general public. This initiative is expected to improve the overall fitness levels of the population.

Setting up open gyms at 7 selected places in various districts under the Tourism Department for 140 lakhs is in final stage. Administrative approval of Rs. 48 lakh has been received for setting up open gyms at Ozhoor Family Health Center and Moolakkal City in Thanur mandal of Malappuram district. This includes civil-electrical works worth Rs. 28 lakh and installation of gym equipment worth Rs. 20 lakh. Currently, civil works have started is in final stage. Also Administrative approval has been received for Rs. 40 lakhs included in the MLA fund and Rs. 40 lakhs included in the Sports Department's plan fund. Out of this, the open gym in Chalissery panchayat has been completed and the open gym work in the remaining 3 panchayats is progressing.
